Art4Development.Net has been working with artist and educator Lars Hasselblad Torres (member of the Art4Development.Net eCommunity) to help create awareness on HIV/AIDS and the vulnerability of children in this global pandemic. The international development arts project, Global Peace Tiles (PT) aims to bring communities together to help create dialogue and solutions for those affected by AIDS. Art4Development.Net supports the project by international outreach and conducting PT workshops.
Art4Development.Net collaborated with Euronet International at the District of Columbia Arts Center to create 8x8 inch wooden PeaceTiles. Workshop participants were between the ages of 25 and 50 and were primarily employed in the education and health sectors, government and international organizations. During the workshop, Art4Development.Net guest speaker Ms.Beatrice Spadacini, CARE International, presented the impact of HIV/AIDS on children in Sub-Saharan Africa. These tiles, in the form of a mural, were exhibited at the "Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and a children's pediatric AIDS center in South Africa on World AIDS Day.
Art4Development.Net has also conducted Peace Tiles workshops with the International Global Health Conference participants aiming to introduce visual arts forms utilized in health advocacy and education. Moreover, Peace Tiles were introduced to participants of the National Conference on Dialogue and Deliberation and DC's artomatic.
