Poverty in many countries, even in the wealthiest nations, exists. Hundreds of million children remain out of school and remain underweight. Hunger, malnourishment, conflict, and unemployment have been particular areas of concern worldwide. The main reason for creating "Arts for Global Development" is the will to attain development as well as the appreciation for the arts and the belief in its power to make a positive difference.
Art in any form and style (i .e., fine arts, digital or performing arts, and more) has been the major common factor in linking people at any level, socio-political and economic status, age, ethnicity, race, religion, gender and color. The Internet as well links people and organizations, and is a valuable resource, education, and communication tool. In this new era of knowledge and information, networks and thus collaborative work have become vital in overcoming the cycles of underdevelopment. Sharing information and know-how and creating partnerships are essential to provide for societal needs. This is why Arts for Global Development (Art4Development.Net) initially came to existence as an online initiative with the motto of: "Let's make the 'Arts' and 'Net' work!"
